Unipart links-up with Varitext
30th April 2007
LEADING electronic display system company Varitext has been bought by Unipart Rail, part of Unipart Group.
The takeover of the £1.7million turnover Middlesbrough-based manufacturer took place in December 2006.
Varitext, which makes Variable Message Signs for the road, Passenger Information Systems and Clock Systems for the rail and Passenger Information Systems for the Bus markets, proved a natural fit to Unipart Rail’s existing rail-related LED signal business, Dorman.
Unipart Rail Managing Director, John Clayton, said: “This acquisition is consistent with Unipart Rail’s strategy for identifying opportunities for growth within the emerging electronic displays product applications market.
“Varitext has a long history of innovation and development of intelligent transport systems, and the synergies between Dorman and Varitext will enable us to continue to develop and expand the range of products that will be required to meet the needs of the market.
Varitext Managing Director David Brown will continue to manage the business at Middlesbrough and will report directly to Gordon Harrison, Managing Director of Dorman. The new combined business will trade as Dorman Varitext.”
